The Stories Below Show the Powerful IMPACT of Identifying Dyslexia!

I recently assessed a 40 year old woman who is courageously attempting to return to college for the 4th time. Previously she did not even suspect dyslexia and never got one accommodation in college. She struggled and dropped out each time, believing that she just wasn’t smart enough to be a college graduate. After the diagnosis and getting more information, she now has tools and the self-confidence to make this dream a reality.

Let me tell you my favorite assessment story: This was the first child I ever assessed formally. He was in 8th grade. Back in 3rd grade, his teacher told him he was being lazy and not putting forth the effort to succeed in school. She also would call him out in front of his peers and ask, “Are you trying to be dumb? You know the answer to this, we discussed this just yesterday.” This child started frequently wetting his pants and not wanting to go to school. In 4th grade, the parents were starting to get really concerned, but the teacher said the boy was getting A’s and B’s and was fine. They just needed to calm down. He was assessed and diagnosed with dyslexia in 8th grade, and later went on to get his associates’ degree at the same time as his high school diploma, and during a global pandemic. This child is MY SON. - Joy

A 72 year old bookstore owner who always struggled through school and in life, but never suspected dyslexia until recently, asked us to do the testing with her. After the diagnosis and the whole process was done, she emailed me to say “Thank you for teaching me about dyslexia and that I am not dumb. I truly believed my whole life that I was not as smart as other people. I think that this may be one of the best decisions I have ever made in my whole life.”
